We started thinking about the honeymoon a little while back but we couldn't do much about it since none of the flight / tour prices were out for April 2010.
Originally our plan was to have 4 nights in Dubai staying at the Atlantis, then 4 nights in Sri Lanka before 7 nights in the Maldives. A mixture of beach, sightseeing and relaxing. However when we started looking at rough prices for other times of the year it was all starting to get quite a bit above our budget. To be able to stay at the Atlantis in Dubai would have meant we would have to stay at a much cheaper resort in the Maldives which we didn't really want to consider since its our honeymoon.
There wasn't much point going to a cheaper hotel in Dubai as we have both been twice before and since its close enough to go for a short break some other time, we scrapped it off the honeymoon list and concentrated on Sri Lanka & the Maldives. We have looked at a few of the Kuoni tours in Sri Lanka as they seem to be the best and Kuoni also have plenty of resorts in the Maldives.
I contacted Travel Counsellors following lots of good reviews on the you&yourwedding / confetti forums. Our 'counsellor' Helene started looking at options for our dates / budget / requirements etc and has given us a few options. We are looking at Kuoni's Ceylon Tour of Sri Lanka for 7 nights, followed by 7 nights in the Maldives. I absolutely have my heart set on an over water villa, preferably with its own plunge pool or jacuzzi.
Our favourite resort so far is the Coco Palm Bodu Hithi, however we have also asked Helene to find out the prices at the Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu, Velassaru and Baros so we can compare each resort. We are only looking at bed & breakfast options as we hate the idea of being tied to eat in certain restaurants which usually happens on either half or full board at these resorts.
We now have loads of options to review over the next few days, to see whats within our budget, before we can get it booked! Then I can start dreaming of new countries to discover and our own private villa over the sea!

Oh how wondrous. I would love love love to honeymoon in a over water villa. Never seeing another soul (well apart from a butler!). The boy has other ideas about horse trekking in patagonia!
ReplyDeleteI think we may settle for a minimoon in a tiny cottage somewhere in on the east coast of scotland! Much November snuggling!
