Our Day by Design

It's taken me ages to post my last pregnancy update, but I wanted to have it all documented. I took the photo at 40 weeks but obviously now Eden is almost three months old! After my last update at 39 weeks, when I had just had my scan, I spent the rest of my last week being pregnant doing the final preparations for Eden's arrival. On Saturday, I got all the thank you cards for Holden's Christmas and birthday presents written and tidied all of my craft stuff that was lying around.  Sunday was spent at Vogrie country park on our last outing as a family of three, with some last bits of shopping on the way home. Once home we put the shelves and a picture up in Eden's room and sorted changing stations in her room, in the downstairs toilet and in our ensuite, so there is one on every floor of our house. I am currently 39+1 weeks {in my 40th week}, and the baby is still the size of a watermelon! I had a scan this morning and thankfully, everything was ok. The baby is fine, there wasn't a lot of fluid but they seemed happy there was just enough. She is literally just using all the space, which is why I can feel / see her move all the time. The radiographer wasn't surprised the same thing had happened with Holden, and thought that it was probably just how I carried babies at the end. After I returned home, I got a call from the se ction coordinator in our area, wanting to confirm my section date since my s can had been fine. I have now been moved to a different hospital, which is in Livingston, slightly further away from us, but it's generally quieter and I shouldn't get moved again. I was given the option of the same date we'd arranged last week or the other slot three days earlier but we opted to keep it as it was, as it gives her a bit more time to grow, ...

I am currently 38+4 weeks {in my 39th week}, and the baby is the size of a watermelon! Since baby reached full term at 37 weeks, she could technically arrive any time. My bump hasn't really grown much in the last few weeks, but she has moved down a bit. I saw the midwife again on Friday 30th, when I was 38 weeks. It wasn't my usual midwife again but the same one I saw last time. I had to take Holden with me but they have some toys and books to amuse toddlers which is good. My mum had said the day before that she didn't think I had grown much since my last appointment. When the midwife measured me, at first she thought I was around 35 or 36, which would have been ok at this stage. However, when she checked again another couple of times, she thought that I was maybe only 34.5 or 34, which would actually be smaller than I was 3 weeks ago. I am currently 36+5 weeks {in my 37th week}, and the baby is the size of a winter melon! My bump is growing a lot but I don't think I'm much bigger than I was with Holden at this stage, although she is definitely higher up. I finished work last Wednesday at the end of my usual working week, so yesterday was my first actual day of maternity leave. Technically I'm using my last two weeks of holidays first before my official maternity leave begins on the 2nd of February. I'm not sure how long I will take this time, but I think by the time I use my 9 months then my holidays, I probably won't return to work until January 2016! Holden is going to continue to go to nursery his usual 2 days while I'm off which I think  will  be good for him to keep a bit of a routine and he enjoys seeing all of his friends there. I am currently 32+4 weeks {in my 33rd week}, and the baby is the size of a durian! I am getting a lot bigger now as you can see. I've had to get a new winter coat to last me through the winter months. I'm not due to see the midwife again until 9th Jan, when I will be 35 weeks, as the surgery is shut the week before when I should normally have seen her. However, last week I saw the consultant for my appointment to discuss options for the birth. I have decided to have a planned (elective) caesarean section, as I was given a general anaesthetic during Holden's birth and by the time I woke up everyone else had met him. I would like to make sure I'm awake for this birth and get to see and cuddle my baby first. They would not induce me again, and I would probably have refused it anyway and they also said they would be fairly quick to perform a section if the baby was in difficulty, so I feel better having it planned so we know exactly what will happen. I am currently 29+5 weeks {in my 30th week}, and the baby is the size of a cucumber! We went for a 4D scan when I was 26 weeks so that we could see the baby again, show Holden what a scan was like and confirm it was a girl before we buy anything else. It was lovely to see the baby again and show Holden the baby in mummy's tummy. The sonographer confirmed it was as girl and think she thought around 2lb. She wasn't really in the best position for the pictures but we managed to get a few after wriggling around a bit and eating some sweets and fizzy juice. Although my placenta is also at the front this time around, I'm definitely feeling a lot more movement than I ever did with Holden and this time I can even see her moving at the front, and Graham can feel some kicks, which we never really did with Holden. I am currently 25+6 weeks {in my 26th week}, and the baby is the size of a lettuce! My bump is definitely growing but I still don't feel too big yet. I had another midwife appointment at 22 weeks and everything was fine. Holden came with me and we got to hear the heartbeat and I was measuring slightly under at 20 but the midwife wasn't concerned. A couple of weeks ago both Holden and myself also had our flu vaccines. I will see the midwife again when I'm 28 weeks. I have arranged to finish work in the middle of January, taking 2 weeks holiday before my maternity leave begins at the start of February. This time around, Graham's sister is also pregnant too, about 10 weeks behind me and due at the end of April. It's lovely to be able to compare as we go along. I'm excited to be an Auntie again and it's lovely that Holden and our new baby will have another cousin who lives a bit closer than the others. I'm already looking forward to our next fam...

... GIRL! I am currently 21+4 weeks {in my 22nd week}, over half way and the baby is apparently almost the size of a papaya! W e had our 20 week scan last Monday and all was well, its a girl, and we could see her wriggling around. I had to go out halfway through the scan to get some chocolate to eat and hope that she would turn as the radiographer was having trouble getting some of the measurements. I'm growing now as well and have a definite bump, as you can see from the photo below. I will try and keep a record from now on, the same as I did with Holden. I don't think I showed as early this time which I was quite surprised about. I saw the midwife at 16 weeks and got to hear the heartbeat. Graham and Holden were able to come too. We already knew from last time that I'm AB negative so will need an anti-D  injection at 28 weeks, probably at the same time as the new whooping cough vaccine and the flu vaccine. ...we had just discovered I was pregnant!   One year on and gorgeous Holden is here; 16 Weeks & 5 Days old!

I'm currently 40+1 weeks and the baby is the size of a jack fruit (or a small pumpkin). My due date came and went on Sunday without any sign of baby but this will definitely be my last bump update as I'm going in to the hospital tomorrow to be induced. I enjoyed my first week of maternity leave then saw the midwife again on Thursday. I was only measuring 35.5 when I should have been 39 or 40 so she arranged for me to go for a scan this morning to check my fluid levels. I spent Saturday bridesmaid dress shopping with my friends then we enjoyed a meal at Pizza Express and the cinema. Just in case anything was going to be wrong at the scan, we spent Sunday cleaning, organising the flat, stocking up the fridge, freezer and cupboards and making sure all my bags and the baby's bag were packed, ready to take with us! I'm currently 39+1 weeks and the baby is still the size of a watermelon! I finished work on Friday so today was the first official day of my maternity leave. I'm planning to take almost the full year which means I wont return to work until January 2013! I spent my first day off washing more baby clothes and packing some of my hospital bag before meeting friends for dinner. Yesterday, my best friends threw me a baby shower which was fantastic and a lovely way to spend the afternoon. I will write more about it soon but it included family, friends, a baby, tea, cakes, fabulous games, a brilliantly decorated cake and lots of lovely gifts for the baby. I don't see the midwife again until Thursday so tomorrow I'm going to finish packing my bag and the baby's bag and complete my birth plan. Then its just a waiting game!

I'm now 38 weeks and since baby reached full term at 37 weeks, he will arrive some time in the next 4 weeks. The baby is the size of a watermelon (or a leek). Bump is still growing as you can see below and my mum noticed a big difference once they returned from their 3 weeks in Australia. They were there for Christmas and the arrival of my niece last week so got to spend some time with her and lots of time with my nephew before they came home in time for the next arrival! Ive ordered some pictures for the baby's room and I'm waiting on a few other things including a mobile, some fabric storage baskets and a large swaddle blanket. We've washed all of the baby clothes, muslins, moses basket bedding, sheets, towels, swaddles and blankets in preparation for his arrival and now all I need to do is actually pack the bags for the hospital! I'm now 36+3 weeks which in theory means we could have less than 4 weeks to go. The baby is the size of a honeydew melon (or a crenshaw melon, whatever that is). Bump is still growing although I still keep getting told I don't look that big. When I went to get my eyebrows threaded on Christmas Eve the women thought I was only about 5 months. I only managed a couple of photos this month, a quick one on my iPhone on Christmas Day at 35 weeks and then an actual photo last night at 36+2 but I think you can see I definitely look a lot bigger than last month . There has been lots of progress in the baby's room; the cot and car seat were delivered and we painted stripes on the wall. We went to Ikea before Christmas, as we had £10 off vouchers to use, and bought a chest of drawers and a chair then we returned last week with another voucher to buy an expedit shelving unit. Reaching 32+5 weeks means we are down to single figures with less than 8 weeks to go. The baby is the size of a squash (or a jicama, whatever that is). As you can see my bump is still growing a lot! I can still get away with wearing a few normal tops or vests providing they are long enough, otherwise its all maternity clothes. Although I think my bump is quite big I've been told by more than one person this week that they don't think so at all, and since its all out the front it doesn't look too big; one was surprised that I only had 8 weeks to go! Unsurprisingly I haven't managed to take a photo every week since my last update although I did manage one in Cologne at 31 weeks and one on Sunday when I was exactly 32 weeks.   It was my 30th birthday on Saturday so after having a delicious afternoon tea at Mimi's in Edinburgh, my parents had some family and friends round to their house on Sunday for another homemade afternoon tea to cele...

Now that Ive reached 28+1 weeks, we are officially into the 3rd trimester, and the baby is the size of an eggplant (or a chinese cabbage). Only 12 weeks to go which I'm sure is going to go so fast with Christmas first.  We decided to go for a 3D/4D Mini Scan at Babes in the Womb at the weekend so that we could see the baby again and confirm it was definitely a boy before we buy anything else!     It was so lovely to see him again and despite the fact he kept hiding his face with his hands and feet, we managed to get a few good 3D pictures. The sonographer confirmed that it is a boy and that he is around 2lbs 6oz just now. He has also still got his head up at the top so hopefully he will start to turn around soon. He is facing my back and as my placenta is at the front, and therefore between us, that explains why I'm not seeing any kicks at the front and why Graham cant really feel any either. I am currently 24+1 weeks, and the baby is the size of papaya (or ear of corn)! At my 22 week midwife appointment I was measuring exactly 22 weeks and got to hear the heartbeat for the first time which was very exciting. I definitely have a bump now, as you can see below. I haven't been very good at documenting every week but I will try as I continue to get bigger. I have dates for my antenatal classes starting in November which I'm sure will make it all seem a lot more real. Otherwise I'm still feeling fine, I've had to buy some maternity tops now as well as many of mine don't stretch far enough over! I'm feeling a lot of movement inside now as well, quite often at night and I got woken up early this morning with him moving around! We haven't made much progress on our spare room yet, we still need to move the double bed before we can do much more but we are hoping to go shopping at the end of October with our parents to order the pram / buggy, cot ...

... BOY! I am currently 20+1 weeks {in my 21st week}, just over half way and the baby is apparently almost the size of a banana! W e had our 20 week scan on Friday and all was well, its a boy, and we could see him drinking and moving around touching his knees! I'm growing now as well and have a definite bump, as you can see from the photo below. I think I'm going to try and keep a record from now on. At my last midwife appointment my blood tests had revealed that I'm AB negative which means I'm rhesus negative and will require an anti-D injection at 28 weeks. This is to make sure that if my blood mixes with the baby's, I wont produce any antibodies against it if he is positive, a possibility since we know that Graham is. Apart from that I have still been feeling fine, I have had to buy some more maternity clothes as I was stuck for options when I didn't want to wear work trousers or baggy jeans! We have also received some lovely gifts from my siste...

I am currently 16+1 weeks {in my 17th week} and the baby is apparently almost the size of a onion! Not a lot to report so far, I'm still feeling pretty good apart from a couple of colds. I don't always sleep so well but as my friends keep telling me its all to prepare me for the future! We have started to clear out the spare room, which will become the baby's room, as we are moving the bookcase to the living room and the double bed to store elsewhere {most likely Graham's parents garage}. We haven't bought any major items yet although we have chosen the pram / buggy. We are going to wait until we find out the sex so that we can decide on a colour before we buy it. We've also looked at a few cots, dressers and car seats but are going to wait a while longer until we purchase anything. I have made a couple of smaller purchases though, the first a Radley changing bag which I couldn't resist when I saw it in the sale and they had the black version in the ...
