Our Day by Design

The rest of the reception went so fast! Our photographers stayed until around 20 minutes after the first dance so they could take some shots of the guests dancing, which I loved seeing. All of a sudden it was time for them to leave, they had been with us for over 10 hours by then which was fantastic and meant we got every part of the day captured. The band were brilliant and had everyone up dancing all night, I don't think the floor was ever empty which was great. Hip Operation are an 8 piece band which was prefect for the large stage at Norton House so I'm so glad they were all able to come. {All images above by Craig & Eva Sanders } We had 3 ceilidh dances included; the Gay Gordons, the Dashing White Sergeant & the St Bernards Waltz. I managed to drag Graham up for the Gay Gordons since it was the first one but I sat out for the others; my organza train had come a bit loose from the lining during the Gay Gordons {think someone stood on it} and...

We don't have 'a song' so we didn't really have a clue what to have for our first dance! Very quickly Graham vetoed anything by Westlife and also the song by East 17 that we had our first ever kiss too {which I thought would have been funny!} After a while of going back and forward we decided on one of my favourite songs; When You Say Nothing At All by Ronan Keating, from the film Notting Hill. We danced on our own for a very short time, we didn't want to be there on our own for too long, especially when everyone is looking at you and taking loads of photos; Graham hardly ever dances either so it was quite an achievement to get him up for so long at all! Then my sister and the best man were called on to the floor, followed by the rest of the bridal party and our parents, my mum dancing with Grahams dad & my dad with Grahams mum. On Thursday last week, we went through to Kilmarnock to to meet our photographers . We ran through what times they are going to arrive and when we would take the group photos as well as the order we will do them in and which ones we would get taken. It was lovely to see them again, and it was great to get the order of the day sorted out a bit more as well. On the way home we popped in to the large Hobbycraft at the Glasgow Fort so that I could pick up 9 of the square wooden frames that I'm planning to paint then use to put the table names in since we are having tall centrepieces on each table. I had got one in the Hobbycraft near us last week and once I had decided they were the correct size, I wanted to make sure I could get them. Once we got home, I had an email from our venue coordinator with the additional menu price attached. We knew we wanted to have a live band that could also provide some ceilidh music, since its a Scottish wedding. The function room that we have chosen has a massive stage for the band to go on which also meant we could choose a fairly big band. We got a couple of recommendations from Grahams mum and one of my colleagues and set about contacting them to find out their availability and price. After a few discussions, we have booked an Edinburgh band called Hip Operation . They have 8 members which will look great on the big stage; they play totally live and have a mixture of male and female vocalists. Nearer the time we will have to finalise the timings & details with them and decide what we want for our first dance!
