Our Ceremony

As I mentioned here, we spoke to the minister to finalise the service and I started working on the draft of the order of service. I sent one to the minister to check the other day to check he is ok with everything. Everything is fine with him, including the readings we have chosen, so I just need to decide how large the text needs to be and finalise the design before I can print them. I already have all of the cover card sheets, the insert paper and the ribbon I'm going to use and mum and dad are going to help put them all together.

So for our service we have chosen the 3 hymns and 2 readings shown, in the following order:

Processional
'Arrival of the Queen of Sheba' Handel

Welcome
Minister

Hymn
Let’s praise the Creator
{Sung to: The Road and the Miles to Dundee - CH4 697}

Reading
1 John 4: 7-13, 16-19
{Mother of the Bride}

Hymn
Jesus, stand among us
{The Graham Kendrick version - MP 381}

The Marriage

Sung Blessing
The Lord bless you and keep you

Reading
This Day I Married My Best Friend
{Uncle of the Groom}

This Day I Married My Best Friend
Author Unknown
This day I married my best friend
...the one I laugh with as we share life's wonderous zest,
as we find new enjoyments and experience all that's best.
...the one I live for because the world seems brighter
as our happy times are better and our burdens feel much lighter.
...the one I love with every fiber of my soul.
We used to feel vaguely incomplete, now together we are whole.

Hymn
The Lord’s my shepherd
{The Stuart Townend version - MP 1008}

Recessional
‘Hornpipe from the Water Music Suite’ Handel

During the prelude and when we are signing the register, we have left it to the pianist to choose something appropriate. I have sent him our choices and I'm just waiting to hear if everything looks ok. Although they are not common wedding hymns, they are from the standard praise books the church uses so he should be familiar with them all.

I also got the minister to send us the vow we will be saying, just so we had an idea before we turn up at the rehearsal the night before. Its a lovely short vow which I think is going to be very appropriate and we have opted to just repeat after the minister, rather than memorising it.

The vow we will be saying is:
Before God and in the presence of our family and friends I xxxxxx declare my love for you xxxxxx and I give myself to you as your husband / wife. I promise you my love, my loyalty and my trust for as long as we both shall live.
