Our Day by Design

Another early morning for us all and we were last on the bus again! Our first stop of the day was to the famous Temple of the Tooth , a Buddhist temple in the centre of Kandy. It's located within the royal palace complex and holds the Relic of the tooth of Buddha . We had to leave our shoes at the entrance again, since its a temple, then we all made our way inside. Our guide was able to show us around and tell us where to go but still leave us enough time to look around ourselves. The main room had massive paintings on the walls which depicted the journey of the tooth relic. Like the cave temples the day before, since you are never allowed to stand with you back to the Buddha, you can only take pictures of the actual statues. After we had looked around the main room, we were taken further into the temple where hundreds of people were waiting in a line or praying. Our guide was able to tell us that they were waiting to get a glimpse of the tooth relic container, as it opens for 1...

The next morning, after another lovely breakfast, we piled into the coach and headed towards Kandy . On route we made a couple of stops, the first at the Dambulla rock caves. We made a quick stop at the golden temple at the bottom, where our guide got the tickets, before we were taken as far up the rock as the coach would go. From there we had to walk the last bit up to the main rock temple, and you could see the rock fortress Sigiriya that we climbed the day before. The temple is made up of five separate caves, each with loads of statues and images of the Buddha inside. You are never allowed to stand with your back to the Buddha, so you cant take pictures of people standing in front of any of the statues, only photos of the actual statues are allowed. The five caves were all different sizes and in some there was lots of water dripping through cracks in the ceiling. This year {well last year now!} I participated in a Christmas Blog Swap , which was organised by Lisa-Marie from This Girl Is... I was very excited about the idea of a swap and signed up straight away. We had to send a parcel which included a Christmas card, a bought decoration, something baked and finally something festive & handmade. I was paired with the lovely Elizabeth from Rosalilium who was kind enough to wait till I got back from holiday to complete the swap. My parcel {which was decorated with a doilies & lace tape} arrived on Monday 20th December and included chocolate oat cookies, a Christmas candle, homemade aromatherapy bath bombs, two Christmas decorations, an indoor sparkler and a lovely handmade Christmas card. I loved opening my surprise package and cant wait to use the lovely goodies. The cookies have already been eaten and the decorations are on the tree.
